Joseph Fernandez is the founder of Solageo, whose mission is to empower off-grid solar enterprises within underserved markets in Developing Asia, Africa and Latin America. Solageo’s focus is to provide a one-stop resource to those enterprises, including quality products optimized for off-grid regions and targeted services that can enable those enterprises to accelerate access to distributed solar energy solutions. Joseph is a former U.S. Peace Corps Volunteer who served in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Prior to founding Solageo Joseph provided global trading services to an international clientele from his base in Hong Kong, including Big Box retailers such as Wal-Mart, Carrefour and Tesco and major importers such as Bajaj Electricals in India and Sojitz in Japan. Since founding Solageo, he has served as an Expert Adviser or Consultant to various organizations in the off-grid solar energy sector including a graduate student Energy & the Environment Workshop at Columbia University; to Bright Products, developers of the Bell Solar Lamp; to Engineering for Change (E4C); and to One Acre Fund. Joseph presently serves on the Investment Committee of SIMA Funds which is extending critical trade financing to, among others, small and growing off-grid solar energy businesses.
